Why Do You Need a Business Valuation?
Virtually all business owners eventually need to determine their company’s worth. Many events can trigger the need for a valuation, such as:
- Divorce or partnership dissolution
- Bank loans
- Bankruptcy
- Stock options or warrants
- Planning for IPOs (going public)
- Eminent domain
Or, you may decide to have a valuation done simply because your business is probably your most important asset and therefore you have a “general curiosity” of how this asset changes in value over time.
As part of the ASA Business Intelligence Portal, we offer the capability to have an objective, professionally prepared, and affordable business valuation appraisal prepared for your company. ASA Operating Performance Report (OPR) participants also receive a discount on the already reduced pricing.
A typical valuation takes 2-3 weeks to complete and results in a detailed 30-40 page Valuation Report. This report includes a thorough review of 10-12 valuation approaches, ultimately determining the final value of your business.
To prepare the valuation, Tom Noon, of Company Insights, will request the following (in strictest confidence):
- Year-end balance sheet
- Income statements from the past 3-5 years
- A brief two-page Business Valuation Background questionnaire
These documents help assess risks and make any necessary adjustments to the financials for an accurate appraisal.
