The recent Training Manager’s CONNECT meetings have brought forward several enlightening topics that will help enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of learning and development at member organizations. Attendees talked at length about cost-saving measures and how to leverage free training resources. One of the key discussions centered on leveraging LinkedIn Learning, which is often low- or no-cost and can jumpstart the training process. By identifying and curating relevant courses, companies can offer tailored learning paths that align with their strategic goals. The integration of ChatGPT and large language models (LLMs) into content creation was another hot topic. The group delved into how these advanced AI tools can streamline the creation of training materials, marketing content, and internal communications. An interesting segment of this discussion focused on prompt writing, emphasizing how the right prompt can yield significantly better results from AI tools. Attendees shared techniques for crafting effective prompts to enhance the quality and relevance of AI-generated content. In addition, the group noted the security and privacy concerns related to LLMs as they utilize this resource during the flow of work. Addressing onboarding processes, the CONNECT group discussed strategies to avoid overwhelming new hires, as many felt that their onboarding programs were overwhelming, too rapidly paced, and lacked follow-up. The 30/60/90-day assessment approach was highlighted as a structured method to gradually integrate new employees, ensuring they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills without experiencing information overload. Use of ASA’s free Job Descriptions and On-the-Job Assessments supplement this approach, which members can download and use as their own. As ASA's CONNECT groups bring together industry experts to discuss these pertinent topics, the group not only addresses current challenges but also paves the way for future advancements in the PHCP and PVF distribution industry.
