ASA’s 2024 Operating Performance Report: The PHCP-PVF Benchmarking Gold Standard for 40+ Years

The American Supply Association's 2024 Operating Performance Report (OPR) stands as an indispensable resource, delivering extensive insights into the industry's performance metrics and operational benchmarks. The 2023 study unearthed pivotal data, illuminating prevailing market trends, and equipping participants with the knowledge needed to forge ahead with confidence.

In the most recently published ASA 2024 Annual Operating Performance Report distributors report U.S. wholesale sales decreased by 1.7% in nominal dollars in 2023. Participants in the ASA Operating Performance Report (OPR) saw a 1.4% increase in sales (also in nominal dollars) during the same period.

Other highlights from the report saw plumbing firms reporting a slight decrease in sales in 2023 at -0.3%. PVF Firms reporting a 7% sales gain in 2023 with HVAC & other firms also experiencing a 1.9% sales increase in 2023.

“I always tell folks when evaluating the report and its data, that distributors should always look at the median score, which is a better benchmark of “company” performance, whereas the composite is a better indicator of overall “industry” performance.” said Greg Manns, CEO of Industry Insights, and author of the report. “These are two years of very significant increases, albeit somewhat “artificial” growth due to the inflationary environment in which we have been operating. Over the last ten years prior to 2021, annual sales growth typically fell in the 2%-7% range for all respondents.”
