Wednesday, May 29, 2024 / News Podcast: Copper Predictions for the Year… Is there Demand? ASA Chief Economist Dr. Kuehl started off the podcast by telling members that copper is heavily influenced by investors, as most of the commodities are. It is always two things: high demand for industrial purposes, but it is also investors who are looking at commodities as a play. Buy and sell. Chris says that copper is in high demand. Asia has become the largest consumer, and then follows China. This is predictable, and a focus area, but this has slowed down in the past quarters. We are looking at a fluctuating market, this will be more volatile moving forward than we have seen in the past. Chris ends the podcast by saying the prediction of pricing for copper will diminish in the coming year and more in 2025. This will be a matter of what the investors do, and the current demand for copper in China is already beginning to diminish. The bottom line is copper prices have gone up, but the long-term play is lowering prices this year will happen. Dr. Kuehl produces three free economic update podcasts each month for ASA members (on Friday mornings). The podcasts are available in the MyASA portal at www.asa.net/myasa and through all traditional podcast hosting platforms.
